Finding Niche Keywords

finding niche keywords
How do i find a low competition keyword or niche on Google?

how can i go about finding the low competition highly lucrative keyword on google?

Hey there,

That’s a very good question and I’m sure you’ll be aware that there are many ways to do this.

Personally I go to the free Google keyword tool and I search using my chosen phrase.

Make sure you have the Advertiser Column and Estimated Avg. CPC and Global Monthly Search Volume Columns displayed.

Sort the order of the results by clicking on the Monthly Search Volume header.

Now what you’re looking for are results that have more than 1000 searches per month and then look to see how much competition there is. Bear in mind that the competition indicated is for Adwords/Paid Advertising on Google and doesn’t relate to the organic searches…I’ll come to that in a bit.

If you look at the values in the Estimated Avg CPC column you can see a rough estimate on how much someone would pay per click for the advertising so if you see anything above say, $1 you can assume that they are making money in that niche.

If you now go over to Google and search using you chosen keyword you’ll see near the top the number of pages containing the keyword or phrase you enter. Don’t rely too much on this number because the majority of the pages further down the results pages will be completely unrelated.

You can delve a little deeper by typing in your search phrase within double quotes like this – “your keyword”. This means Google will then give you results where your phrase is used exactly how you typed it. Normally the number of results will go down I would suggest low competition would be anything less than 10,000. Higher numbers are possible to compete with you just have to put more work in.

Also if you search for intitle:”your keyword phrase here” Google will return the number of pages that include the phrase in the title tags. This will give you an idea of how easy it will be to compete in that niche.

Regarding how lucrative a niche is one indicator is how many Adwords ads there are on the results page. These are normally at the top and down the right hand side. If there is a ‘More Sponsored Links’ link click it and see how many other advertisers are using the keyword phrase in there paid advertising, the higher the number of advertisers the more lucrative the niche.

I hope this helps, if you do have any further questions please drop by my blog and I’ll do my best to help.
